Dear Members and Supporters, Further to our recent email outlining HPG’s position regarding the Harbour Trust’s 10 Terminal Development Proposal, we are pleased to advise that the Trust is now taking steps to consult with the wider community in respect to the Development Proposal. Some of you may have received in your mailbox a newsletter from the Trust summarising the 10 Terminal and Parklands Renewal Project at Middle Head. You can read it here → HPG wishes to make clear that the $10m allocated by the Commonwealth Government in 2019 for the 10 Terminal precinct will not be used solely for the restoration of the 10 Terminal building. It will also be used for the demolition of the barracks, construction of a walkway and landscaping. This means that funding for the restoration of 10 Terminal will not be sufficient. HPG estimates, on the basis of figures provided by the Trust, that of the $10m available only approximately $4.7 will allocated to the 10 Terminal building. HPG believes that 10 Terminal, the largest building in Headland Park with significant military history, should become the anchor of the Park, be restored and adaptively reused to complement its historical past. Adequate funding is essential to ensure the proper remediation and interpretation of the building. This is our last chance to tell the many stories that 10 Terminal and Headland Park hold and we should not squander the opportunity. HPG is making representation to the Trust and Commonwealth Government for the allocation of additional funds to ensure that 10 Terminal is appropriately funded to facilitate the interpretation of the multi-layered history of Middle Head. I urge you to write to the Trust with any ideas or concerns you may have in respect of the Development Proposal. It would be helpful if you could also copy your correspondence to HPG, savemiddlehead@gmail.com, so that we too can advocate on your behalf. Sincerely, Jill L’Estrange HPG President hpg.org.au
