Lorna Wright, one of the campaign's greatest supporters and who led the Mosman protest in her wheelchair, passed away unexpectedly on December 16 after a fall at her nursing home.
The SMH Death Notice says in part… “Mum’s last good day on earth the week prior was attending a protest to save the parkland at Middle Head. In her honour please sign a petition at www.communityrun.org/petitions/save –public-parkland-at-beautiful-middle-head-on-sydney-harbour” This refers to Lorna's attendance at the Trust's Board meeting in public on December 9, and the photo above was taken on the day, Lorna is in the blue shirt on the left. A letter (see above) from Lorna to the Mosman Daily was published after her death on December 18. In it she says “Please just let the park be there for the people...”
Lorna's daughter Laura Cunningham is on the HPG Committee. Laura said “she helped with Meals on Wheels and Senior Citizens at Crows Nest; she visited asylum seekers at Villawood with me; she helped many people through her church (in a small way)... She thought Middle Head should be kept for people to be able to enjoy as families – to go there and picnic, enjoy the peaceful views. She was in an aged care facility herself so well aware of the need for them, but knew that it was simply not right to take from everyone else.”
