Mosman Council has announced a public meeting to address changes to Environment and Planning laws. Below is an extract from Mosman Mayor, Carolyn Corrigan's recent email announcing the event:
Planning - there are significant changes afoot and a Community Meeting about Planning Changes will be held on Wednesday 7 February at the Council Chambers commencing at 6.30pm.
The meeting is to inform residents on recent changes to the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act, 1979 - specifically the mandated introduction of independent planning panels.
But doesn't Mosman already have an independent planning panel, I hear you say. Yes, we already have MDAP, which we have developed into a very effective panel. However the NSW government wants 'one size fits all' with the panel Chair and panel members provided from a government list. Your elected local Councillors will lose all planning powers including the right to determine DA's on public land.
I have invited the Minister for Planning, Anthony Roberts MP, and our local state member, Felicity Wilson MP, to attend this important meeting, which will end with a 20-minute Q & A session. If you have any queries or questions please contact me on 0419-784-002. I look forward to seeing you there.
