ABC's Linda Mottram interview – Brigadier Kevin O'Brien Trust Founding Board Member

Linda Mottram interviewed Brigadier Kevin O'Brien (Ret) about the proposed private aged care facility development in Headland Park on Middle Head.

Brigadier O'Brien was a Founding Member of the Harbour Trust and served 12 years from 1998 (start of Interim Trust) to 2010.The four original Interim Trust Board (1998) members all continued to serve until 2010. In addition to Brigadier O'Brien, the Interim Board consisted of Kevin McCann AM, Hon Barry O'Keefe AM QC (deceased), and Peter Lowry OAM.

In 2010 the entire Harbour Trust Board was replaced by the new Labor Government (in 2011 after a significant period of time with no Board at all).

Original Board member Peter Lowry rejoined the Board in late 2011.

Brigadier O'Brien left the Army in 1998 after 33 years' service after reaching the rank of Brigadier.

He had a distinguished service career including operational service in Vietnam in 1970-71, where he served as an artillery forward observer with Australian and New Zealand infantry companies. He had overseas postings in the USA, UK and Germany.

Brigadier O'Brien served at two of the Harbour Trust sites during his 30 years with the Australian Army. Brigadier O'Brien has studied the military and defence history of Australia and assisted in the restoration of heritage defence sites. He has advised on, and edited, a book about the defence of Sydney Harbour during World War II.
