The Marina proposal although not optimal from a heritage perspective, does appear to be an earnest endeavour to secure a modern, adaptive and viable use for the southern apron of Cockatoo Island. It should enhance the potential for the place to become a “living working island” by creating vibrancy and encouraging other compatible uses.
The HPG’s principal concerns are visual impact, public access and understanding why existing buildings cannot be adaptively reused for office accommodation and equipment storage at the very least.
